Generator stator end-winding bump testing

Obtain evidence of end-winding mechanical response to support maintenance planning. TEMISA Power Gen® coordinates test scope, access and specialist scheduling.

Request early. Scope and dates confirmed after technical review.

Open generator stator during an instrumented impact test
Technical reference photograph of an impact test in a stator. It does not establish a TEMISA project reference or the proposed test coverage.

What does this inspection assess?

A bump test uses instrumented impact to identify natural frequencies of stator end windings. It helps assess proximity to relevant excitation frequencies and determine whether further evaluation is needed.

Excitation and response

An instrumented hammer and sensors record the response of selected accessible points.

Natural frequencies

Frequency response functions help characterize the behaviour of the structure under assessment.

Technical interpretation

Results are reviewed against configuration, supports, test conditions and applicable references.

PLANNED INSPECTIONS

Contact us before you finalize the outage

TEMISA Power Gen®

This is a planned specialist service. Contact TEMISA as early as possible so we can review the machine, define scope and coordinate equipment, personnel and logistics. An enquiry does not reserve a date.

  1. 01

    Request early

Share manufacturer, model, rating, site, inspection objective and proposed outage dates before finalizing the plant schedule.

  2. 02

    Review feasibility

We review drawings, photographs, history and access. We identify missing information and the specialists and equipment required.

  3. 03

    Agree scope and dates

The proposal defines tests, deliverables, exclusions, responsibilities and schedule. Mobilization requires confirmed availability and commercial conditions.

  4. 04

    Prepare and execute

The site provides agreed access and equipment release. The team verifies readiness, coordinates other work and records the actual test coverage.

  5. 05

    Report and plan next steps

Findings, limitations and recommendations are delivered on the agreed timetable. Further tests or repairs are scoped separately.

What determines lead time?

Machine geometry, completeness of technical information, specialist and equipment availability, site preparation, location and travel or customs requirements. The proposal separates preparation, testing, reassembly and reporting; test duration is not total outage duration.

Information to start the review

  • Manufacturer, model, rating and nominal generator frequency.
  • Drawings or photographs of end windings and their supports.
  • Vibration history, repairs, support changes and previous test results.
  • Outage window and access for sensor installation and instrumented impacts.

Expected deliverables

  • Documented measurement points, directions and test conditions.
  • Frequency response results and identified frequencies within the agreed scope.
  • Report of findings, limitations and recommendations for further evaluation.

Full modal analysis is specified where appropriate. This test does not replace operating vibration monitoring and does not include repair or rebracing.

Coordination in Mexico; Latin America assessed by project

For sites outside Mexico, TEMISA reviews location, access, specialist availability, travel and customs requirements before confirming a programme. Scope, dates and report delivery are agreed in the proposal.

Before scheduling

Is bump testing performed while the generator is running?

The service described is planned with the equipment offline, accessible and released for testing. Measurements during operation are a separate scope.

Does the result automatically approve the generator for operation?

No. Results must be interpreted with machine history, test conditions and applicable criteria. An individual frequency alone cannot establish the overall condition of the machine.

How far in advance should I request the service?

Contact us during outage planning, before finalizing the schedule. Lead time is confirmed after reviewing technical information, scope, access, specialists, equipment and logistics. There is no single lead time for every machine.

Does an enquiry reserve an inspection date?

No. An enquiry starts the assessment. Mobilization is scheduled once scope, commercial conditions, availability and required site preparation are confirmed.

Can several tests be coordinated during one outage?

Yes, subject to feasibility and availability. We define the sequence and work interfaces; combining services does not mean they can all run simultaneously.
