Generator retaining ring inspection

Assess retaining ring condition before defining the next rotor intervention. TEMISA Power Gen® coordinates technical review and scheduling with specialist inspection teams.

Request early. Scope and dates confirmed after technical review.

What does this inspection assess?

Retaining ring inspection uses non-destructive testing to assess internal and surface indications. The rotor and rings may remain installed where geometry and access allow. Feasibility is confirmed for each generator.

Ultrasonic testing

Assessment of ring volume and internal areas. The procedure defines the techniques and coverage applicable to the ring geometry.

Eddy current testing

Examination of the accessible outer surface, complementary to ultrasonic assessment.

Indication assessment

Records of location, coverage and limitations support technical review and the next maintenance decision.

PLANNED INSPECTIONS

Contact us before you finalize the outage

TEMISA Power Gen®

This is a planned specialist service. Contact TEMISA as early as possible so we can review the machine, define scope and coordinate equipment, personnel and logistics. An enquiry does not reserve a date.

  1. 01

    Request early

Share manufacturer, model, rating, site, inspection objective and proposed outage dates before finalizing the plant schedule.

  2. 02

    Review feasibility

We review drawings, photographs, history and access. We identify missing information and the specialists and equipment required.

  3. 03

    Agree scope and dates

The proposal defines tests, deliverables, exclusions, responsibilities and schedule. Mobilization requires confirmed availability and commercial conditions.

  4. 04

    Prepare and execute

The site provides agreed access and equipment release. The team verifies readiness, coordinates other work and records the actual test coverage.

  5. 05

    Report and plan next steps

Findings, limitations and recommendations are delivered on the agreed timetable. Further tests or repairs are scoped separately.

What determines lead time?

Machine geometry, completeness of technical information, specialist and equipment availability, site preparation, location and travel or customs requirements. The proposal separates preparation, testing, reassembly and reporting; test duration is not total outage duration.

Information to start the review

  • Manufacturer, model, rating, location and proposed outage window.
  • Ring drawings and dimensions; material and history where available.
  • Photographs of both ends, access and obstructions.
  • Previous reports, known indications and reason for inspection.

Expected deliverables

  • Report of examined areas, techniques and limitations.
  • Indication records and locations within the agreed scope.
  • Technical review and recommendations for additional assessment or monitoring.

Inspection does not include ring repair or replacement. A structural integrity or remaining-life study, if required, is scoped separately.

Coordination in Mexico; Latin America assessed by project

For sites outside Mexico, TEMISA reviews location, access, specialist availability, travel and customs requirements before confirming a programme. Scope, dates and report delivery are agreed in the proposal.

Before scheduling

Is ring inspection the same as stator inspection?

No. Retaining rings are rotor components. Ring inspection and robotic stator inspection use different equipment and serve different purposes, although both can be coordinated during one outage.

Is inspection without rotor removal guaranteed?

No. Keeping the rotor and rings installed depends on geometry, access and the procedure. Feasibility is confirmed before scope is committed.

How far in advance should I request the service?

Contact us during outage planning, before finalizing the schedule. Lead time is confirmed after reviewing technical information, scope, access, specialists, equipment and logistics. There is no single lead time for every machine.

Does an enquiry reserve an inspection date?

No. An enquiry starts the assessment. Mobilization is scheduled once scope, commercial conditions, availability and required site preparation are confirmed.

Can several tests be coordinated during one outage?

Yes, subject to feasibility and availability. We define the sequence and work interfaces; combining services does not mean they can all run simultaneously.
